One of the many chinese festivals celebrated here in Singapore is the Mid-Autumn Festival in September. (For those of you who follow our blog, you may recall me making Mooncakes last year for the fest.) It is also known as the Lantern Festival. This year we participated in the lantern parade, Treetops puts on for the children with Sadie.

The story of the Lantern Festival is this; "A long time ago, some people killed the favorite goose of the Emperor in heaven. He was so angry that he ordered his gods to set fire to the Earth. Luckily a good fairy overheard him. So she told everyone on earth to light their lanterns at the exact moment she knew the Emperor would be looking down. They did and the Emperor was tricked. He thought the earth was on fire, but of course it was just the glow of the lanterns."
